Frequently Asked Questions

When should I take sense for a night out?
Use sense for a night out by taking it before, during or after drinking (in accordance with the directions) but always drink sensibly! Even if you are not sensitive to alcohol or you don’t over indulge, it is a good idea to take some sense for a night out as a part of your daily routine.

How many capsules should I take?
The recommended amount is one capsule per drink, but everyone is different. For best results take too many rather than too few, subject to maximum dosage allowed. You should try and take 2-4 capsules approximately an hour before you start drinking. If this is not possible, take the equivalent of 1 capsule per drink before bedtime whether during the night-out (which is better) or approximately (the sooner the better) 1 hour after drinking (subject to maximum daily dosage).

What sense for a night out doesn’t do:
It doesn’t reduce your intoxication; it doesn’t decrease the amount of alcohol in your system; it doesn’t help if you over-indulge excessively or don’t follow the instructions; it doesn’t help if your sensitivity to alcohol is based on some other deficiency or medical condition. If in doubt, be very careful and don’t over indulge just because you have sense for a night outwith you. Don’t drink and drive.

What is the RDA?
Some of the ingredients exceed the European Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA), however, they are considered to be safe according to current scientific opinion when taken at the Recommended Dose (see above for details). Please contact The Department of Health, Food Supplements Division if you require more information.

Warnings and Cautions: Food supplements must not be used as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. If you are hypersensitive to vitamins, pregnant, breastfeeding, under medical supervision or taking any medication including asthmatics, diabetics, and cancer sufferers, those with liver or kidney disease or anyone on anti-depressants please consult a doctor before use. Discontinue use and consult a doctor if adverse reactions occur. For individuals sensitive to vitamin C, ingestion of over 1000mg may cause mild stomach irritation. Some individuals taking zinc on an empty stomach may experience minor digestive disturbance such as nausea. Should this be the case, we recommend that they take supplement with a meal. Long term daily intake of 25 mg of zinc (that equals 10 capsules of sense for a night out) may lead to anaemia.

Active Ingredients

Alpha Lipoic Acid Research has shown Lipoic Acid (LA) to be protective of liver function and helps to improve blood circulation within the liver. LA has powerful anti-oxidant properties and prevents oxidation of both vitamin E and vitamin C. It aids in the production of glutathione which is one of the compounds critical in the phase II of the detoxification process in the liver so crucial with regard to processing and elimination of the by products of alcohol metabolism. LA was shown to be hepatoprotective, to improve liver circulation and treat chronic liver diseases, including jaundice hepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatic coma, to treat diabetes, and diabetic neuropathy to alter carbohydrate metabolism, atherosclerosis, coronary atherosclerosis and many other diseases. One of the most studied clinical uses of LA is the treatment of diabetes and diabetic neuropathy LA has also been used experimentally and/or clinically to prevent organ dysfunction, reduce endothelial dysfunction and improve albuminuria, and to treat or prevent cardiovascular disease. LA is a “small” supplement with very big potential.*

Biotin is a vital component of enzymes that allow you to use energy from fats and carbohydrates. It also supports the health of your skin, nervous system, metabolism and cells.*Biotin is also required for the function of an enzyme involved in fat production. As part of every cell membrane, fat helps separate the inner workings of cells from their environment. It is especially critical for cells that must be rapidly replaced, such as skin cells.*

Cysteine is an amino acid, a building block of proteins that are used throughout the body. Also functions as an antioxidant dealing with free radicals, harmful compounds in the body that damage cell membranes and DNA.

Glutathione acts as an important antioxidant in your body helping combat free radicals. These are molecules that can damage your body's cells. Glutathione plays a role in many chemical reactions in your body. It also helps detoxify chemicals, including some that your body creates naturally, as well as pollutants and drugs.*

Magnesium is a critical co-enzyme in over 300 functions in the body and contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Magnesium is the fourth-most abundant mineral in the body. About 50% of magnesium is associated with bones, and the other half is divided among cells that make up your tissues and organs. Magnesium is needed for more than 300 reactions that take place on a constant basis. Magnesium is involved in making proteins and is crucial for energy production.*

NAC (N-Acetyl -Cysteine) helps synthesize glutathione, an all-purpose antioxidant and detoxifier produced in the liver. NAC supports the liver from the adverse effects of several toxic chemicals. For example, NAC is known to help eliminate acetaldehyde, a compound converted from alcohol that is 10 to 30 times more toxic than alcohol itself. Studies suggest NAC, taken with Vitamin C and Thiamine, can be used to prevent and relieve hangover symptoms.

Niacin is a big shot when it comes to energy and metabolism.* It is essential for converting proteins, fats, and carbohydrates into fuel that cells can use. Niacin is also needed to make fatty acids, cholesterol, and other “macronutrients” .The vital components of DNA – the blueprint your cells use to replicate themselves – owe their existence to niacin. It’s also important for helping maintain healthy skin.*

Pantothenic acid helps generate energy from carbohydrates, fats and protein. It is also involved in the production of cholesterol and hormones, as well as in the making of essential fats, which are vital for protecting the structure of nerve cells.*

Riboflavin is involved in the metabolism of several B vitamins—a tight-knit group of compounds that work together to help the body function. Riboflavin promotes energy production at the cellular level and is critical for the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and protein. Riboflavin also works to protect your cells.*

Selenium is required to manufacture important antioxidant compounds in the body that help cells function properly, support immune health, and prevent damage caused by free radicals — the rogue forms of oxygen that roam the bloodstream looking to play havoc with your cells.*

Thiamine was the first of the B vitamins to be discovered and plays a leading role in many bodily functions. Thiamine is necessary for the proper functioning of the nervous system and muscles. It helps produce energy from the food you eat.*

Vitamin C contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue as well as the normal function of the nervous and immune system. In addition, Vitamin C aids iron absorption. It also protects B vitamins from oxidation. Vitamin C is essential for immune health, as well as the repair and maintenance of muscles, skin, bones, and teeth. It’s one of several antioxidants in the body that deflect some of the damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are oxygen-based byproducts of normal metabolism, and are also formed when you’re exposed to toxins such as cigarette smoke (including secondhand), alcohol and air pollution. *

Vitamin B6 - Pyridoxine is needed to make the amino acids that help to form the basis of DNA, the blueprint for cell production. You also need it to produce immune system cells. Pyridoxine plays a major role in supporting the nervous system. The production of serotonin and norepinephrine – neurotransmitters that foster communication between nerve cells – is made possible by a compound that contains Vitamin B6.*

Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin with a key role in the normal functioning of metabolism, as well as in the formation of blood.Vitamin B12 is naturally present only in animal products, where it’s bound to the protein in those foods. During digestion, the hydrochloric acid in your stomach releases B12 from food, allowing the body to absorb it. Inability to absorb vitamin B12 from the intestinal tract can be caused by a condition called pernicious anemia, resulting in a vitamin B12 shortfall. People who do not eat animal foods and who don’t consume the suggested amount of vitamin B12 from fortified foods and dietary supplements are also prone to vitamin B12 deficiency. As you age, the risk of inadequate vitamin B12 absorption rises.*

 

Directions For Use

There are 2 different ways to take sense for a night out.

For daily routine: Take 1 capsule 2-3 times daily with food.

On a ‘night out’: Take 2-4 capsules before drinking and top up during the night out or before you go to bed so that you take a total of one capsule per drink subject to maximum daily dosage of 10 capsules. Drink plenty of water to rehydrate! Please be aware of the Department of Health guidelines below
